Deputy Editor in Chief – Job description  



1.ParisTech Review
 

ParisTech Institute brings together 11 of the most prestigious French elite schools of science, economics and technology[1] and HEC Paris, the best French business school.

ParisTech Review
is an online journal, published in both English and French.  Its targeted readership is corporate executives throughout the world.  ParisTech Review has signed a partnership agreement with The Harvard Business Review and Knowledge@Wharton.

ParisTech Review
papers address topics at the intersection of economics, business, technology, and society.
[2]  They display accuracy, rigor, and freedom of expression.  PTR papers take into consideration public interest and provide the reader with the opportunity to look at these issues from a new angle.

ParisTech Review
publishes two types of papers :

(a)
   
evergreen papers, written by corporate executives and researchers (French or not, with or without links to ParisTech)

(b)
  
papers related to current events and situations, written by the ParisTech Review team, generally based on interviews of experts


ParisTech Review
will start online around the beginning of 2010.



2. The deputy editor-in-chief is responsible for :

  • identifying authors for papers of category (a) above, with the help of the editorial network, and managing the related editorial process : obtaining the article, editing it, getting the approval of the author on the edited version, controlling the translation (generally outsourced) (the original paper may be written in French or in English)
  • writing category (b) papers, preferably in English, and controlling their translation ;
  • any piece of text which is published online by the ParisTech review, including forums, boxes of links, etc
  • more generally, all the content of the ParisTech Review, and its adequacy to the editorial policy
 


3. Evolution of the position towards editor-in-chief

The current editor-in-chief intends to leave within a few months. Therefore, the deputy editor-in-chief should be prepared and able to take over from him. 
 



4. Profile and skills

The candidate should have :

  • English as his/her mother tongue (Anglo-Canadian, American, English,)
  • an outstanding capacity to write in excellent English, in a style which makes his/her articles pleasant and even exciting for the reader
  • a very good practical experience of editing
  • a perfect mastering of the French language, as he/she will have not only to control the French versions of the papers, but to interview experts, some of them being French
  • a good knowledge of business and, if possible, technologies, and a good  understanding of what the targeted readers are expecting
  • a good International experience
  • a good practice of the Internet as a user
 

5. Location of the job and time schedule

The job is located in Paris.
The candidate should be able to start as soon as possible.
